It is reported that Adalat Gurbanov, the head of the women’s section of the Baku Investigation Detention Center, has beaten 6 female prisoners who were held in Cell 48.

This was shared by Sevinj Vagifgizi, the imprisoned editor-in-chief of Abzas Media. She stated that the incident took place on January 18.

“Adalat Gurbanov hit all of them on the head. Afterward, the women were removed from their cells and transferred to different ones. They have expressed dissatisfaction with the cells they are currently in and stated that they wish to return to their previous ones,” the journalist noted.

According to Sevinj Vagifgizi, the imprisoned women were threatened and instructed not to inform Abzas Media’s imprisoned journalists about the beatings.

Adalat Gurbanov has previously been associated with cases of torture in the detention center. His name was mentioned in relation to the beating of an inmate named Maleyka.

Sevinj Vagifgizi added that on January 20, Adalat Gurbanov was retired due to age and replaced by Vahid Atakisiyev.

Vahid Atakisiyev was one of the officials who showed particular eagerness in November of last year during the incidents of violence against Abzas Media journalists. He had forced inmates to give statements under threats regarding Elnara Gasimova, alleging that she had used physical force against prison staff.

Once the incident became public, these statements were retracted.

Despite reaching out to the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice for comment on the matter, our questions remain unanswered.
