Shahaddin Orujov, the father of Mohyaddin Orujov and a second-group Karabakh war invalid, states that the police officer who was a witness during the investigation confirmed that no drugs were found on the activist during the initial search.
The trial of public activist Mohyaddin Orujov at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes continues amidst controversy.
During the hearing on January 7, a dispute arose due to inconsistencies in the police testimony. At this point, Judge Rasim Sadikhov decided to proceed with the examination of the case materials without questioning additional witnesses, which was met with objections.
Mohyaddin Orujov's mother, Tarana Orujova, states that it was at this moment that she saw employees of the Penitentiary Service forcefully squeezing her son into a corner of the glass cage designated for defendants.
"Those in the courtroom were protesting this. I also asked, 'Why are you doing this to my son?' Court staff grabbed my arm and dragged me to the door. Then I saw them grabbing everyone one by one and throwing them out onto the stairs. At that moment, a girl named Sara fainted."
Speaking to "Abzas Media," Mohyaddin Orujov's father, 2nd group Karabakh war invalid Shahaddin Orujov, said that the police officer, as a witness during the investigation, stated that no drugs were found during the initial search of the activist. According to him, the officer later concealed this part of his testimony in court and refused to mention it. The judges also defended him and tried to get him out of the situation. It was after this that tension arose in the courtroom.
"My son is not guilty. They framed him. He has never been involved with drugs. We go to Karabakh and risk our lives, and when we come home, we find that our children have been falsely accused and imprisoned. Now we have to live with this pain.
They themselves admit in the indictment that this child has never used drugs, nor was he involved in selling them. You also say he doesn't sell or use them, so how is it that he was carrying them? They wrote that no drugs were found during the initial search, but a few hours later, a second search took place, and they were found then. When we found him at the police station, we saw him walking freely in front of the duty section. If he had drugs on him, he would have discarded them during those hours, why would he keep them on himself?
I am a soldier, and despite everything, I endure barely. I’ve been in war, trapped, and made it out. I’ve been injured three times. I’m disabled now. I am a person who endures everything, but I cannot endure this injustice. I’ve been a fighter, my son was a commander in the army, and my father was a participant in the Great Patriotic War (WWII). Yet, you’ve caught the son of such a heroic family with drugs. This is a heartless act. I will fight, and I will not bow down to them. If I can’t protect my own family, how can I be a commander? How can I protect the people of Azerbaijan?!" - Shahaddin Orujov stated.
Public activist Mohyaddin Orujov was first arrested in October 2023 on charges of failing to comply with police orders and was sentenced to 30 days in administrative detention. Shortly after his release, he reported being subjected to police violence. On December 13 of the same year, he was re-arrested, and criminal charges under Article 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code were brought against him, which involves the preparation, production, acquisition, possession, transportation, transfer, or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their precursors in large quantities.
Mohyaddin Orujov and his family members claim that his arrest is related to his political activism.
